Constant ocean spray is a major challenge when landscaping oceanfront properties. This salty ocean spray creates excessive plant dilapidation causing severe damage to leaf surfaces. Efforts in designing the landscape included selecting plants that could withstand these conditions. Additional soil was added to the ground layer to increase the substrate material between the plant material and shallow bedded lava rock. Integrated pest management was implemented in the entry courtyard to effectively combat mosquitoes, and other pests, in the water feature.
